bout a year ago I wrote a post for Black and Married with Kids on the importance of the love teachings in Corinthians 1:13. I won’t go into the whole post, you can check it out there, but it talks about the scripture that I’m sure we’ve all heard. No matter what your religious background, the love truths here are universal:

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

One of the commenters on that post suggested that he had replaced the word “love” in the scripture with his own name to quickly determine whether he was operating out of love with his spouse. I thought it was the best idea ever. So now I’m passing it along to you.

Today’s task is to put your name in place of “love” to get a gauge on where you are today and see whether or not the scripture still rings true. I’ll start so you have the example.

Aja is patient. Aja is kind. Check. Today my patience is in pretty good shape. And I’m home with my two-year-old. So that’s saying a lot. I would say I’ve been on the kind side today although I haven’t gone out of my way to do anything special. That can change.

Aja does not envy I will admit, I used to be a text message checking, private-eye kind of chick. But as I’ve gotten more mature, and our relationship has grown, the insecurities that led me to do those kinds of things have waned.
